The British Royal Mint has released a new coin featuring a Yeoman Warder guarding the iconic Tower of London. This coin is the third release in this popular series, which is dedicated to celebrating one of UK’s most iconic heritage sites, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Founded by William the Conqueror almost 1,000 years ago, the Tower of London is one of the world’s most famous fortresses.
The reverse of the new coin features one of Yeoman Warders, who have guarded the tower and protected its traditions and treasures for centuries. Designed by Glyn Davies, a Yeoman Warder is placed at the center of the coin, while the edge bears the inscription ‘On into twilight within walls of stone’. The reverse also includes the inscription “Tower of London” above the Yeoman Warder.
The obverse displays an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark, along with the monetary denomination, 5 pounds, and year of issue, 2019.
This coin is struck in sterling silver and finished to Proof standard.
