The Royal Canadian Mint has released a new pure silver coin to mark the 50th anniversary of the decriminalization of homosexuality in Canada.
The reverse of the new full-color silver coin features two overlapping faces with facial traits reflecting gender fluidity and the spectrum of gender expression. The vibrant colors of the LGBT pride flag appear above the head of the image in a display of community, equality, and inclusion.
The word equality is written in English and French on two curved bands on the reverse. The outer frame of the coin includes the word "CANADA", the double dates "1969" and "2019" to mark the 50 years since the process of decriminalizing homosexuality in Canada began, and the face value of the coin, "10 DOLLARS".
The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
This silver coin is a full-color version of the 2019 circulation dollar. It was struck in 99.99 pure silver with a matte proof finish. It has a limited mintage of 15000 coins.
