Details
First mentioned in the 19th century, the breed originated in Maine, where it was created by crossing American cats with European cats. The coon refers to its resemblance to this teddy bear - the Maine Coon has a bushy tail that is as long as the rest of its remarkably large body.
The reverse side of the coin bears two depictions of the Maine cat. The first one is coloured, thus giving the colourful fur to stand out. The second, which is embossed, presents a cat with a bushy tail. The Czech-English inscription MAINE COON CAT completes the composition. On the obverse side, which is common to the whole series, you will find a silhouette of a cat and paw prints.
