Standing up to 1.9 metres tall, the flightless emu is Australia’s largest bird. Males are known to defend their young, driving predators away by kicking their long, powerful legs, which are also used to propel these birds across the continent’s dry plains at remarkable speeds up to 50km an hour.
The coin’s coloured reverse portrays an adult emu and three chicks in an arid outback setting. The inscription ‘AUSTRALIAN EMU’ and a ‘P125’ mintmark appear within the design. Made from 1 troy ounce of .9999 Fine Silver, this coin has a limited mintage of 2,500 pcs.
