Appearing among the Chinese constellations, the Four Mythical Guardians are auspicious creatures in oriental culture. Each guards one of the four cardinal directions (north, south, east, west) and is associated with a season (summer, autumn, winter, spring) and one of the ‘five elements’ (wood, fire, earth, metal, water) said to govern change in all things.
The coin portrays the Four Mythical Guardians on background imagery comprising mountain tops and clouds: The Phoenix, symbol of the south, summer, and fire; The White Tiger, symbol of the west, autumn, and metal; The Tortoise with Snake, symbol of the north, winter, and water; The Dragon, symbol of the east, spring, and wood.
Included in the design is the 2024 year-date and a ‘P125’ mintmark signifying The Perth Mint’s 125th anniversary. This coin, made from .9999 Fine Silver, has a limited mintage of only 25,000 pieces worldwide.
