In 2024, the Czech Mint commemorates the 700th anniversary of Marco Polo's death with a remarkable one-kilogram silver coin. Designed by medal maker Mgr. Petr Horák, the reverse side of the coin features Marco Polo, a Venetian winged lion, and a ship carrying exotic animals, inspired by contemporary manuscripts. On the obverse side, Marco Polo bows before Kublai Khan, accompanied by oriental motifs of a dragon and a falcon rider, all framed by typical Mongolian folk art decor. Issued with the license of Niue, the coin includes its national emblem, a nominal value of 80 DOLLARS (NZD), and the year of issue (2024). With an elaborate high relief accentuated by a patina, this coin pays homage to Marco Polo's enduring legacy.
