In 2023, the Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre - Real Casa de la Moneda will issue a 1 oz. gold coin with the reverse picture of another animal representative of Spain, this time a Carthusian horse. The Carthusian Horse is an offspring of the pure Spanish horse and is regarded the purest breed in existence, with one of the world's oldest genealogical books. The Carthusian lineage has its origins in the Jerez monastery of La Cartuja, which has been the epicenter of the breeding of an elite of Andalusian horses since 1484 and has been home to one of the most recognized and respected stud farms in the world for at least three and a half centuries.
