Michael is one of the seven archangels and is among the three whose names appear in the Bible: Michael, Gabriel and Raphael. Michael occupies the highest place among the archangels and is known as the “Prince of the Heavenly Spirits” and “Commander of the Heavenly Army”. In the Old Testament he appears as the great defender of the people of Israel against the devil, and his powerful defence continues in the New Testament: “Then a battle arose in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the Dragon”, which represents the devil.
