Barbados can often be referred to as the land of the flying fish. These foot-long aquatic animals can jump beyond water and fly for up to 200ft (30-40 metres). This unique ability evolved from the need to escape predators unable to leave the water. Native to Barbados’s waters, this fish is a national symbol and featured on one of the Scottsdale Mints most treasured coins.
