This beautiful one ounce highly pure 99.99 silver coin marks the 150th anniversary of the discovery of the largest gold nugget in the entire world. Miner John Deason and Richard Oates discovered in February of 1869 the biggest alluvial Gold nugget in Moliagul, Victoria, Australia.
Named "Welcome Stranger", the gold nugget was found only 3 cm below the surface of the ground near a base of a tree, with a gross weight of 109.59 kilograms. Due to its large weight, they had to break it down into pieces for it to fit on the scales at a bank in Dunolly. The nugget had a net weight of 72.02 kilos.
The reverse of the new coin features a representation of the Welcome Stranger nugget. It includes the inscription of "WELCOME STRANGER NUGGET", and double dates "1869 - 2019", which refers to the passage of 150 years since the discovery of the gold nugget. The reverse shows the Perth Mint's mintmark "P".
The obverse displays Jody Clark's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, along with monetary denomination of the coin, 1 dollar. This coin is now sold out at the mint!
