This beautiful one ounce highly pure 99.99 silver coin from the renowned Australian Perth Mint features the largest bird of prey in Australia, the wedge-tailed eagle, which is also one of the biggest eagles in the entire world. Besides mainland Australia, the wedge-tailed eagles can be seen in Tasmania and southern New Guinea.
The bird has distinctive long and fairly broad wings, fully feathered legs, and an unmistakable wedge-shaped tail. They have an impressive long wingspan of up to 2.7 meters, with the capacity to fly tirelessly for hours on end and can reach altitudes as high as 6800 meters.
The reverse of the coin portrays a wedge-tailed eagle flying with its wings fully extended as it’s poised to swoop down on its prey. Rays of sunshine can be seen in the background of the eagle. Designed by artist John Mercanti, the reverse includes the inscription “AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE”, along with the coin year of issue, metal weight and quality.
The obverse displays Jody Clark’s profile of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, along with the coin monetary denomination, 1 dollar.
This coin is the sixth addition to the Perth Mint’s Wedge Tail Eagle series, which proved to be one of the best selling coins due to its growing popularity and appeal among coin investors and collectors.
This coin comes in an original protective plastic capsule.
